To date, ninety women have represented Oklahoma at the Miss America competition. Ninety-five women have worn the crown of Miss Oklahoma due to state winners winning the title of Miss America and runners-up assuming the title of Miss Oklahoma. Early Miss Oklahoma competitions were held at the First Christian Church in Oklahoma City. In 1964, the competition was moved to Tulsa, where it remained until 2025 when it moved back to its home in Oklahoma City. While in Tulsa, The Kiwanis Club of Tulsa contributed to the success of Miss Oklahoma by providing volunteers, donors, and sponsors. Now, citizens from across the state work together to maintain the excellent status that Miss Oklahoma has developed within the Miss America system. Today, Jack P. Cooper of Edmond, formerly Ada, serves as Board Chairman and Organization President. Kay Alexander, of Tulsa, serves as Executive Director. Other Executive Board members include Mignon Merchant Ball, Edmond, 1st Vice-President; Roger Herring, Tulsa, Vice-President; Kathleen Pettigrove, Tulsa, Vice-President, and Lecye Doolen Lippoldt, Oklahoma City, Vice-President. The Miss Oklahoma Leadership Team is composed of over 12 citizens from all over the state working together to keep the Organization one of the strongest in the nation.
The Miss Oklahoma Organization is proud to offer over $2,000,000 in scholarships to contests statewide each year through our Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Foundation. The scholarships are awarded at the state competition as well as at local competitions throughout the year. Both the newly crowned Miss Oklahoma and Miss Oklahoma's Teen will receive cash scholarships. In addition, the two winners can select in-kind scholarships made available from colleges and universities within our state. Runners-up and participants in both competitions will also receive scholarships.
Six young women from Oklahoma have won the title of Miss America, and 2 Oklahoma teens have been crowned Miss America's Teen. To donate or volunteer, contact Jack Cooper at Jack@missoklahoma.org or visit missoklahoma.org.
