Canterbury Voices presents the world premiere of Chickasaw composer Jerod Tate’s LOKSI’ SHAALI’ (Shell Shaker), a groundbreaking choral and orchestral composition narrating the journey of the Chickasaw-Choctaw migration. LOKSI’ SHAALI’ is the story of a Chickasaw girl named Loksi’ (Turtle), transforming from a troubled girl into a confident young woman and the significance of embracing one’s identity, honoring sacred traditions, and how simple acts of kindness can transform the world.
Joining OKC’s nationally recognized Canterbury Voices will be award-winning American Indian opera singers. This semi-staged production of Tate’s new work will captivate the audience, immersing you in the rich cultural heritage of the Woodland tribes of Oklahoma.
Pre-Concert Talk
Join Canterbury Voices in the Thelma Gaylord Theatre at 2:15pm for a pre-concert talk with Composer Jerod Tate and Guest Conductor Tianhui Ng.
